How to Avoid Teeth Staining

Staining in teeth is disturbing, shameful yet very common amongst adults and children. No matter how hard we try to avoid teeth discoloration, it doesn’t really go. But, we can at least try to minimize the possibility of developing unnecessary discoloration on our teeth.

Quitting smoking is one of the best ways to reduce teeth staining. This might sound like a hassle for some, however, it turns out to be extremely useful when it comes down to whitening teeth. Cigarettes have nicotine content that leaves brown stains on the enamel. These stains do not fade away with brushing. Additionally, smoking also leads to bad breath and gum disease, thereby increasing the risk of developing oral cancer.

In addition, there are some foods and drinks that lead to staining including coffee, tea, dark soda, wine, fruit juices and so on. However, it becomes impossible to avoid such food and drink types. You simply have to brush your teeth or rinse out your mouth with water after consuming these. Brushing your teeth before having a glass of wine helps in getting rid of staining. According to dentists, “cleaner teeth are less vulnerable to stains”. Brushing helps in disrupting the bacteria and prevents accumulating it at a single place.

Use a whitening toothpaste while brushing. It helps when applied two-three times a day for several months. Deeper staining is still untreatable, however, it helps remove stains via bleaching.

Don’t forget to floss. It’s quite problematic to floss as often as dentists say. However, a few minutes from your busy schedule can make a big impact and help you get rid of plaque and teeth staining. To prevent stains from hiding in between your teeth, you must keep up with flossing.

Keep your calendars scheduled for dental visits. Annual dentist appointment is important to help you get rid of ugly stains. Our dentist will make sure that everything looks clean and good. They will help to figure out what’s best for your teeth and which products can be used.

Using an antibacterial mouthwash is another quick remedy for stain removal. Stains are trapped in plaque which is common in your teeth. If you use an antibacterial mouthwash, you will be able to get rid of plaque.
